The wedding photographs

A spring wedding beneath the barn rafters

White pews, a wood-lined aisle and a chandelier establish the ceremony setting. The closer photographs show another side of the day: a bow tie being adjusted, flowers on the tables and Kari and Josh together at the barn doors. Open any photograph for a closer look.

Getting ready

The photographs begin with the small details and the last preparations. Kari's bridal portrait and Josh's reflection give each of them a moment in the story before the ceremony.

Josh, checking the bow tie one more time. It was fine the first time.

The getting-ready room has the light, the mirrors and enough floor for the whole train.

The ceremony, from the rafters to the aisle

The chandelier and timber framing sit above the ceremony. Wider photographs include the wedding party and the room, followed by the kiss and the walk back up the aisle.

Look up. The chandelier and timber roof are worth the neck strain.
A dip and a kiss to close the ceremony. Nailed it.

Flowers, portraits and the reception

Pink, yellow and white flowers bring color to the tables. There are cookies marked with the wedding date, a toast at the bar and a portrait against the barn doors before the evening dance photographs.

Cookies with the date on them, so nobody forgets the anniversary.

The venue

The Stone Barn at Beardslee Farm

The venue's official history dates the barn to the 1850s, when it was part of the Beardslee family's working farm. Today, its website describes two getting-ready suites, an indoor ceremony space with vintage church pews, a reception space and an outdoor patio.

In Kari and Josh's wedding photographs, the wood framing and chandelier define the ceremony room. The barn doors provide a different background for their couple portrait, while the reception photographs show the space after dark.

Photography and film planning

Planning photographs in a timber-framed venue

These are suggestions drawn from Kari and Josh's photographs. Confirm your own room layout, access and schedule with the venue and your planning team.

01 · The ceremony setting

Include the whole room

The wide ceremony view includes the chandelier, timber framing and wedding party. Alongside close photographs, allow your team a clear position for a view that shows where the ceremony happened.

02 · Couple portraits

Save time for a simple background

Kari and Josh's barn-door portrait uses the wood itself as the background. A short portrait slot can make room for this quieter photograph between the larger parts of the day.

03 · The reception

Discuss evening lighting

The dance photographs look different from the daytime ceremony coverage. Talk with your photo and film team about the room's evening lighting and where the dances will happen, so those moments are included in the plan.
