Traditions at the Glen Wedding Photography & Films

Traditions at the Glen, also known as Traditions Hotel & Spa, is a hillside resort in Johnson City built around a brick mansion from the early 1900s, with a hotel, a spa and an 18-hole golf course on the same grounds. We first photographed a wedding here in 2022, and our team covered three more in the summer of 2026. This page follows one of those days from the French doors upstairs to the last dance, adds portraits from the hill in 2022, and shares what we have learned about light, timing and moving around the property.

The venue’s own history says the mansion was built as a private home for an Endicott Johnson executive and later bought by IBM, which used it as a retreat known as the IBM Homestead. Today it sits at 4101 Watson Boulevard with hotel rooms, a spa and the golf course around it, close to Binghamton, Vestal and Endicott.

For photographs, three things matter. The mansion gives you a real piece of architecture: dark brick, cream trim, a columned entrance and a balcony with French doors. The ceremony lawn faces open hills, so the view sits behind the two of you. And because the hotel is on the property, both sides can get ready here and nobody loses an hour in a car.

Expect warm, traditional rooms inside: patterned drapes, wood floors, brass and sconces. We lean into that. It photographs best with window light and a little shaping, not by pretending it is a white loft.

One June wedding,

Danielle and Zach were married here in June 2026, and we photographed and filmed the day. Everything below was taken on the property: getting ready in the mansion and the hotel, a first look in the front drive, an afternoon ceremony on the lawn, portraits around the grounds and the reception indoors. Portraits on the hill, 2022

Four years earlier we photographed another wedding at Traditions. These portraits were made on the open hillside, under one large tree, with the ridge behind the couple. Open shade under the tree did most of the work.

What we would tell
a friend getting married here.

These are our recommendations. Where we describe something a couple actually did, we say so. Confirm access, spaces and weather plans with the venue, because those are theirs to decide.

01 · LIGHT ON THE LAWN

The ceremony lawn is wide open. Plan for the sun.

Danielle and Zach’s ceremony was in full afternoon sun with no shade over the arbor or the chairs. The view is worth it, and we expose for faces and let the sky fall where it falls. If you have a choice, a later ceremony is softer on everyone, and an angle that keeps the sun off your guests’ faces is kinder than one that suits the view alone. Ask the venue which way the arbor can face.

02 · THE MANSION FIRST

Use the front of the house before guests arrive.

The front drive, the steps and the balcony are the strongest backdrops on the property, and they are also where guests pull in. Danielle and Zach did their first look, private vows and wedding party photographs there before the ceremony, while it was still quiet. That also frees cocktail hour for family photographs. Give the family list fifteen to twenty minutes on the front steps straight after the ceremony, with one person from each side helping us find people.

03 · MOVING AROUND

Portrait spots are close, but they are not all next door.

The mansion, the ceremony lawn and the reception are a short walk apart. The tall grass, the tree line and the golf course take longer in a dress. We plan twenty to thirty minutes for couple portraits and pick two locations, not five. If you want frames on the course, ask the venue what is open on your date and whether a cart is available. For a wet day, ask about the indoor ceremony option and tell us, so we can scout the staircase and the rooms with the best windows.

Photography and film together: on a day with both, we stagger the two teams at the first look and the ceremony so neither is in the other’s frame, and we share one timeline with you and your coordinator. If a second photographer is part of your coverage, they start with whoever is getting ready in the hotel.

Traditions at the Glen wedding questions

A few things couples ask.

Have you worked at Traditions at the Glen before?

Yes, a few times. We first photographed a wedding here in 2022, and in the summer of 2026 our team was back three times, in June, July and August. Two of those were photography and film together and one was photography only. Most of what you see on this page is Danielle and Zach's June wedding, plus a set of hillside portraits from 2022. As the other galleries are finished, we'll add to it.

Is Traditions at the Glen the same place as Traditions Hotel & Spa?

Yes, same property. The resort and golf club go by Traditions at the Glen and the hotel goes by Traditions Hotel & Spa, both at 4101 Watson Boulevard in Johnson City. The one to watch out for is Traditions at the Links in East Syracuse, which is a completely different venue. It's worth checking which one is on your contract before you go looking at photographs.

Do you offer both photography and film at Traditions?

We do. It's one team with one plan for the day, so the photographer and the filmmaker aren't elbowing each other at the first look. You can book photography, film or both.

Where do you take portraits at Traditions?

So far: the front of the mansion and its steps, the balcony and French doors upstairs, the ceremony lawn and arbor with the valley behind, the open hillside with its big tree, the tall grass along the tree line, and the golf course. Inside, the mansion staircase has been good to us. What's open to you depends on your date and the golf schedule, so check with the venue and we'll plan around the answer.

What happens if it rains?

Then we go inside and keep working. Ask the venue what the indoor ceremony plan is for your date and when they make the call, and let us know. We bring our own lighting and we've photographed inside the mansion, so rain changes where we shoot, not what you get. Nobody can promise you weather, and we won't pretend to.
