We have photographed two weddings on this property, both in the Apple Orchard Lodge, and filmed one of them, so we already know how the garden arbor reads in afternoon light and again lit after dark, where the patio gives you the building behind you, and why the first thing to settle is which of the two buildings your day is actually in. Dibbles Inn Orchard & Estate sits on Route 5 in Vernon, New York. It is in Oneida County, roughly halfway between Utica and Syracuse and a few minutes from Vernon Downs. The venue has been operating since 1935 and describes nine acres of landscaped gardens around the buildings, with a young apple orchard on the grounds.
The part worth understanding before you plan anything is that this address holds two wedding venues under the same ownership. Dibbles Inn is the original inn, and the Apple Orchard Lodge is the timber and fieldstone building with the rustic reception room, the cobblestone fireplace, the silo bar and the garden ceremony space. Both weddings we have covered here happened in the Lodge. The rooms and structures you will spend the day in look like this. The Apple Orchard Lodge is a timber building on a fieldstone base, with a rustic reception room under a draped ceiling, a cobblestone fireplace, and a patio that opens onto the gardens. Outside there is a garden arbor for ceremonies, a covered pavilion, and a pergola that can be draped. The venue also includes an all day bridal suite, which is described below but is not pictured here, because the couple in these photographs got ready off site. The photographs in this section carry our studio watermark because they come straight from our client galleries.

Three things worth
deciding early.
Name the building, not just the venue.
Dibbles Inn and the Apple Orchard Lodge sit on the same property and share a street address, and the two have different rooms, different ceremony spots and a different feel. Both of the weddings we have covered here were in the Lodge. When you brief your photographer, your florist, your DJ and your transport, say which building, because a vendor who arrives at the wrong end of the drive loses twenty minutes on a day that does not have twenty minutes spare. A venue coordinator told one of our couples to navigate to Dibbles Inn and follow the drive in, and that is still the advice we pass on.
Decide the ceremony spot and its backup together.
There are three ways to marry here and they photograph very differently. The garden arbor on the brick patio is the open air option, the covered pavilion keeps a roof over you with the garden still around you, and the venue also offers an indoor ceremony with a plain backdrop as a weather call. Pick your first choice and your backup at the same time, and agree the time by which the venue will make the call. We plan lighting for both, so a switch at noon on the day changes nothing for us.
You get a second portrait window at night.
Most venues give you one good portrait window, at sunset. Here you get two, because the arbor and the patio are strung with warm light and read beautifully once the sky has gone. Fifteen minutes near sunset covers the gardens and the patio with the lodge behind you. Ten more minutes after dinner, out at the lit arbor, gives you a completely different set of photographs on the same night. Sunset in Vernon falls around 8:45 PM in late June, about 7:45 PM in late August, and about 6:20 PM in mid October, so the later your date runs in the year, the earlier that first window arrives.

- Late morningCoverage begins wherever you are getting ready, with the dress and the details while hair and makeup finish. The venue includes an all day bridal suite, but not everyone uses it: the couple on this page got ready at a house a short drive away, which is perfectly workable as long as the travel is in the plan. Settle early whether you are on site or off, and if you are off site, tell us the address and add the drive to the schedule.On our late summer day here, coverage started late morning at the off site suite and moved to the venue with the wedding party, which left room for details and the whole of getting ready without rushing.

If you skip it entirely, family formals move to cocktail hour and we will say so in your timeline.
- By 4:30Everyone hidden away. Guests start arriving for a 5:00 ceremony, and the ceremony patio and the arbor are in use from here on.
- 5:00 PMCeremony at the garden arbor or under the pergola, about twenty minutes.We cover it from the aisle and from the side, so you get the walk down and the faces watching it at the same time.
- 5:20 to 6:00Family and wedding party formals straight after the ceremony, while everyone is together and still dressed sharp. The arbor and the brick patio do the work here.
- 6:00 to 7:00Cocktail hour on the patio under the tree and the string lights, with the lodge behind. This is where the photograph at the top of this page comes from.
- 7:00 PMInto the reception room. Speeches first, then dinner, then cake at the cobblestone fireplace, then the floor opens.On our day here speeches ran from 7:00, dinner at 7:30, cake at 8:00 and dancing from 8:15.

The venue is all inclusive and provides catering in house with its own chef, listing six menu packages and gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. Its packages include an open bar with bartenders, a champagne toast and a signature drink, and the wedding cake and cake cutting are included as well.
