A Wedding at The Black Barn at Harvest Moon

It rained on Lindsey and Noah’s wedding day, so the clear umbrellas came out and the ceremony stayed inside the barn. BlackTie Brothers photographed their May 23 wedding at The Black Barn at Harvest Moon in Smithville Flats, from the vow books in the morning to the dance floor at night. A golden retriever in a flower collar was there for most of it.

Rain outside, a chandelier inside.

Lindsey and Noah were married and celebrated at Harvest Moon. The ceremony was inside the Black Barn, the portraits happened under clear umbrellas, and the reception came back inside for toasts, cake and dancing. Their coverage was photography only, so there is no film from this wedding.

The photographs below are a selection from their gallery, in the order the day unfolded. Tap one to see it larger and use the arrows to move through them.

Portraits in the rain

Clear umbrellas, a black barn and a vintage red fire truck. The rain didn’t stop anything. It just changed the props.

The venue · Smithville Flats, New York

A black barn in the woods.

The Black Barn at Harvest Moon is on 40 acres of woodland in Smithville Flats, north of Binghamton. Its listings describe a barn with cathedral ceilings and a crystal chandelier, room for up to 125 guests inside with the option of a tent for more, a cedar ceremony arbor by the pond and a separate Cathedral Forest ceremony site, a covered Gathering Pavilion, glamping tents for overnight guests and a cedar barrel sauna.

At Lindsey and Noah’s wedding it rained, and the ceremony was held inside the barn. White drapes and a greenery arch turned one end of the room into the ceremony space, and the same barn hosted the reception.

Our planning notes

Planning photography at Harvest Moon.

What we saw at Lindsey and Noah’s wedding, what we would suggest for yours, and what the venue says about its own setup. Each card says which one it is.

01 · WHAT WE SAW

Rain moved everything inside, and it worked.

The ceremony, the toasts and the dancing all happened in the Black Barn. The chandelier, white drapes and string lights kept the room warm in photographs, even on a gray day.

02 · OUR SUGGESTION

Keep clear umbrellas on hand.

Clear umbrellas let the light through and keep your faces visible, so rain portraits still look like you. If the forecast is uncertain, a few are worth packing.

03 · FROM THE VENUE

Ceremony options outside.

The venue lists a cedar arbor by the pond and a Cathedral Forest ceremony site in the woods. Ask Harvest Moon which one fits your guest count, and where the ceremony moves if it rains.

04 · OUR SUGGESTION

Bring the dog, with a plan.

A golden retriever in a flower collar is one of the highlights of Lindsey and Noah’s gallery. Check the venue’s pet policy, then tell us who has four legs and who is holding the leash.

05 · FROM THE VENUE

Room to stay over.

Its listings describe glamping tents and packages that run for more than one night. If your weekend includes a rehearsal or a morning after, ask us about adding coverage.

06 · OUR SUGGESTION

Look up.

The crystal chandelier is the centerpiece of the barn. Keep it lit for the first dance and the toasts, and we will make sure it is in the frame.

Photography, film or both

Coverage that fits your day.

Lindsey and Noah chose photography. You can add film, and our photographers and filmmakers will work from the same plan. We have artists in New York, Florida and Hawaii and photograph and film weddings nationwide.

THE PORTRAITS

Direction when it helps.

We guide you into a good spot and good light, then leave room for the laugh between the posed frames. A short portrait plan gives you more time with your guests.

THE WEATHER

A plan for both versions.

When rain is possible, we plan the day twice: once outside and once in the barn. On the day, we use whichever one the sky allows.

THE FILM

One team for both.

If you add film, our photographers and filmmakers plan around the same timeline. You can see examples of our wedding films in our portfolio.
